Prayer of Confession
Our living God, we desire to be strong and competent because we fear being and appearing weak. We confess that we seek salvation and rescue through our own strength and not through yours. We also admit that we are tired, weary, and exhausted from trying to be strong. Thank you for the promise from your Word that you give strength to the weary and increase the power of the weak. May we trust the words of Jesus when he tell us that his grace is sufficient for us, for his power is made perfect in weakness. May we boast all the more gladly about our weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on us. Amen.

Where/when is strength valued, and where/when is it overvalued?
Where/when is weakness seen as a liability and to be avoided? When do you feel the need to compensate for your weaknesses?
In what ways does the Christian call to be weak appear utterly foolish? When have there been times when you’ve had difficulty embracing this call to be weak?
How have you experienced the costliness of being weak as a Christian?
When have you seen someone embrace weakness that demonstrated strength?
How might God be calling you to trust that his grace is truly sufficient for you, especially in your weaknesses?
