Monthly Class: Relating - February 8
Class 5 Topic: A Structure to Promote Peace
Romans 12: “If possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all.” It is not always possible to live peaceably with all. We will consider 3 passages in Matthew that work together to help us navigate interpersonal conflict so that we can do what is within our responsibility to glorify God by seeking peace in relationships.
Lunch will be served for those who registered. All are welcome, whether you registered or not. Grab a bagel and join us in room 307.
Spring Retreat: Registration Open through Feb 24
Our annual spring retreat will be Fri, March 20 - Sun, March 22 at our usual location, Tuscarora Inn. Topic: Doing Evangelism and Not Being Weird, led by Tim Craig. Details about the weekend and registration process, including prices and room descriptions, are now available on our retreat page.
Emmanuel subsidizes the cost of the retreat. This year we have increased the subsidy to reduce the cost even further. This is an important event in the life of the church so we want to be sure everyone who is part of our church comes. While there are multiple benefits of coming on the retreat, we think it is particularly strategic for deepening relationships within the church so we see this as an investment in our community. If you are part of our church, or hope to be part of our church, join us!
Room on Our Pew Survey
Everyone in our church who has not yet completed the survey from our recent congregational meeting is invited to take THIS brief, anonymous survey (under 5 minutes) to help us better understand how we welcome and support families impacted by disability. Please submit responses by February 15. Learn more about ROOP here and here.
Literacy Program - Sign up for spring semester dates
Emmanuel partners to help young children with basic literacy skills at the Grant Houses (123-125 streets). The program is on Saturdays from 10:45am-12:45pm. Volunteers arrive by 10am for setup. Curriculum and support provided. No experience with teaching is necessary. Sign up for spring semester dates starting Feb 28. Contact jane@emmanuelnyc.org with questions.
2 part Membership Class - March 1 & March 7
If you are thinking about joining Emmanuel, join us after the service on Sunday, March 1, and the following Saturday morning (March 7) for our 2 part fall membership class.
We think it is important to commit to a church, so if you are deciding whether or not to commit to Emmanuel this is a chance to learn about the church and ask your questions. If you know you will commit to Emmanuel, this class is a prerequisite for joining. If you hope to join but are not available for either of the classes, let us know via the registration form and we can talk about alternatives with you.
Lunch and childcare provided for Part 1. Childcare for Part 2 available upon request. Registration Form
Bowery Women’s Dinner - March 7
Sign ups are available to serve a meal at the Bowery Women's Center in the new year. On the first Saturday of each month, we organize and serve a meal for 30 people. Consider if you (and your HFG / friends) would come serve one month! Learn more about this opportunity.
